telephone connection

I talk to my partner every night over the phone. We usually stay on the phone for hours and hours until fall asleep.lol We like to stay connected even after we fall asleep. The thing is one of our phone get disconnected after a while and the phone device would make that loud beep sound waking us up every time.

We have tried on different devices. cell phone, landline (cable) wireless phone and old school hard wired coil phone. All three failed to stay connected.

Do you know why ?

Not to detract from your question, but what is the point of keeping the phone on and connected while you sleep? Wouldn't you have the same "mental connection" from a dead silent "off" phone compared to a dead silent "on" phone, just knowing that you're both sleeping next to your phones???

I know it sound silly, but we like the idea of being able to sleep by as if in person basically.
