Are there any apps where I can monitor the temperature and fan speed of my iMac? Preferably free ones, but I don't mind paying for a decent one. Thanks :)

You can use iStat Pro (free) or iStat Menus ($16) to get accurate readings of your temps, fan speeds, etc. A forum member has posted a copy of iStat Pro that has been "tweaked" to enhance compatibility with Mountain Lion. You can download it here.

I'm not going to lie, I don't particularly like the look of the website for iStat Pro. Are you sure it's safe to download from there?

Yes, perfectly safe. I have it and have had it for many years. It's actually one of the most popular temperature apps for the Mac.

You can also get it from Mac Update.

iStat Pro is a very reputable app that's been around for many years. It's perfectly safe. I would never post a link to an unsafe site.

I've sent a couple of emails to the maker of iStat Menus to add CPU support for the newest iMacs, but after almost a month no answer and no update. It's not a big deal, but it annoys me that the software still doesn't display the CPU temps of late 2012 iMacs. (only CPU proximity, not the CPU cores).

Is it me, or is the iStat Pro showing that my HD in my 2012 iMac having a temperature of 1 degree Celsius?

Me too  - have reported this to iStat, they are looking into it - some days it is 1 degree C then next day it will be 255 degree C - nothing in between. A uninstall then re-install fixed it for about an hour. Will wait to see if iStat can fix it.
