I feel your pain. Apple touted TEMPERATURE...Temperatue...temperature. Shouldn't it be easier to just see my body (wrist) temperature without going through all these hoops to see a simple simple simple temperature?

What happen to simple Apple???????

No, that’s not what it’s for.
Exactly.

You’ll note that there’s no option to take a temperature reading right this moment, in contrast to the way you can get heart rate, blood oxygen, and EEG readings on demand.

The primary intention for temperature is reproductive cycle tracking, at which it appears to be quite effective.

Secondarily to that, you’ll be able to tell when you have a fever overnight … but that’s not likely to be all that useful nor surprising. You’ll feel sick enough to reach for a traditional thermometer.

About the only diagnostic I can think of (beyond, of course, cycle tracking) that might be useful is long-term changes in temperature which might indicate something serious, like thyroid disfunction. But Apple hasn’t mentioned that sort of thing, so there might be a technical limitation.

Incidentally, I’d love the ability to get an on-demand temperature reading. But, again, this hardware isn’t able to provide that.

Because the absolute temperature reading is incorrect and meaningless.
Also, wrist temperature is not a proxy for body temperature.
It is only the pattern of environmentally-adjusted temperature variations that is meaningful.

I would like temperature access for when I hike - I want to know what the temperature is presently, and the high/low overnight. A simple app could record temps at selected intervals, or just the high/low until reset would at least be something. Garmin & Casio have been including thermometers in their watches for years - it's unclear why Apple is restricting thermometer data to just the two health related apps.
