So earlier today I thought it would be interesting to see how well my temperatures are sustaining after a few months of use...

Interestingly enough, I am noticing a slight change in the "average" values over the course of 10 minutes intervals of testing...

My average idle temperatures have not really changed much. They are between 35 to 39 degrees C. (This is calculated by letting the system "warm" up for 15 minutes, then recording the temperature with ZERO applications running)

Then...

I use a four-window yes > /dev/null test to test the thermal maximum of my machine...

Whats really odd is that my fans refuse to spin up faster than 3500 RPM (It creeps up really really slowly). So literally my computer sits at 97 to 100 C at 3500 RPM. But if I manually increase to 4500+ RPM, the computer bumps down to 85 to 95.

I guess this is worrying me because I have never seen my system actually hit "100" C. So maybe it is getting worse and worse at heat dissipation as time goes on...

I know that a /dev/null test is essentially a "worse case scenario" and should theoretically display the highest temperature that your system will obtain. And I also realize that no real-world application is going to tax the CPU like a dev/null test. So seeing 100 C during a dev/null probably isn't that big of a deal.

It just feels like my system is really reluctant to speed up the fans... Even while writing this it has increased to 3900, but seriously... Why is it taking so long to "decide" to increase the fan speeds... At this point it is currently holding at 95 to 98 C.



I would think that the system would increase the speeds to maximum or at least in the 4k RPM range...

Edit: I just manually increased the speed to 6k RPM, and during the same test I am showing 85 to 88 C
