I'm traveling overseas, and I want to unlock my iPhone 4 (AT&T) to work with the local carrier. I then want to revirginize the iPhone and lock it again. I want to do this WITHOUT jailbreaking the phone.

How can I accomplish this?

I would also like to know what you have against jailbreaking. But as the people before me already said, you can't unlock the iPhone4 with software on the newer basebands anyway so your best bet is to do the Gevey hardware unlock since you don't need to jailbreak to do it and it works on all current basebands and firmware revisions(except for iOS5 Beta 2+).

However, it is important that you get the Gevey Ultra SIM because earlier versions of the Gevey unlock require you to dial 112(emergency number) which is illegal.

The Gevey Ultra requires a jailbreak to install the FuriousMod software--so that's not an option for the OP. It also still dials 112 and hangs up, according to most everything posted on the subject, it just handles the whole thing in the background for you.

The other Geveys don't require a jailbreak, but you have to go through the manual 112 process.

thanks for all the replys guys!
I don't want to jailbreak because its a corporate issued iPhone. Oddly enough, they have a policy against jailbreaking, but not against unlocking (strange, but I specifically asked my boss)

How can I find out what my base band is / how do I use Gevey Sim?

How to I virginize / relock my iPhone later?

(you need to dia 112 ONCE when first to use gevey supreme, no need to do it again when re boot the iPhone):
Step1. Turn off your iPhone and insert your Sim card and GEVEY Pro Sim
together with the metal Sim tray provided.
Step2. Turn on your iPhone and wait for the SIM WELCOME menu
to show and then select “accept”
Step3. At the beginning a“no service” message will show on your iPhone,
DON’T do anything and wait until you see one signal bar appears on
the top left corner.
Step4. After you see the signal bar dial“112”and hang up within 2 seconds.
Step5. Turn on the Airplane mode and then turn off right away.Your iPhone
will show “SIM Failure” and then “No SIM Card Installed”
Step6. Until the “No SIM Card Installed” messages shows up turn on the
Airplane mode again and turn it off right away again. The “SIM Failure”
messages will show and the signal will show up after a few seconds.
