Temporary delete photos on 5s to free up space

Is it possible to delete my photos and music on my 5s to make space for iOS 8 and then put the photos and music back on the phone after it's updated? How would I do this, with a recovery from an iTunes backup made right before updating? Is it possible to recovery after updating the OS?

You actually don't need that much space to update to iOS 8 if you do it using iTunes. I know that OTA requires 5+ GB free, but this method doesn't require that much. Open iTunes, select your phone, and hit update.

Just update through iTunes and it won't need any memory, you get to keep all your photos and apps.
