Hi there!

Short: I work on graphic design (no video or animation) with an 2017 iMac that goes really well (i5, 8gb, Radeon Pro 575) and I need some portability sometimes.

I´m waiting for the 14 inch MBP, but I saw this offer today; the Intel i5 512 SSD is 1299€ (from 2129€ on Apple). Also the M1 is not far at 1494€...

Thinking that the 14 inch (if it happens) would maybe be near the price of the actual Intel on Apple (2000/2200€) and also the 1st generation of a new design is not something I really trust on Apple, this offer is tempting.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

If you don't need Bootcamp, windows, or specific x86/x64 apps I would get M1 Air 16GB/512GB
Do you want to connect to 4K monitor ? Main issue of Intel Macbooks is overheating Thunderbolt controller if you connect 4K monitor...

So :
entry level - M1 Air 16/512
or M1 Pro 16/512 for touchbar, 500nits, 20% more performance in load
or "M2" Pro 16/512 for latest tech...

Tim Cook once said that a low price feels good only for a short time after the purchase. But QUALITY feels good for the life of the product.

Save a few dollars now, yes, but for years you may be regretting the heat, noisy fans and poor battery life of Intel when you could have been enjoying the cool, quiet and long-lasting M1X in the 14 inch MBP.

If you can wait until October, it's highly recommended you do so.

Yes, nice quote with Tim´s credit card hahaha

I can wait yes, also the Air is a good option as imp3rator suggests.

Obviously the M1 is the way to go, I understand that; it´s just that for a second machine an Intel 10th generation could be fine (for that price).

Let´s see what the second half of the year brings to us...

Thanks,

Some people can't afford a 2k computer. Of course Tim Cook says this. He wants you to buy a top spec mac.

That’s why Apple Certified Refurbished is such a great deal. You get the same quality warranty coverage for significantly less $$. I’ve purchased many Macs this way.
