Dear folks
I'm using an Iphone 5 on iOS 8.0.2. I've been plagued with this "other" taking away 3 .. 4 GB of my storage, so I am told that I have to reset and erase all data and start afresh. I've already posted a question on this "other" stuff here https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1789528/
I've have the following doubts on complete erase and restore and would really appreciate your replies... I hope this thread is used by others with similar doubts
Questions BEFORE hitting the erase button !

1. I've backed up to iTunes on my laptop ;
Question : How do I know it backs up everything ? is there some setting to tweak ? or is it defaulted to back up everything ? how does one check
2. I've backed up to iCloud ;
Question : I've backed up everything except photos, music and mail. For photos & music I am depending on (1) above.
Question : Mail (say Gmail, Hotmail, office mail) is on the server and I expect that to be re synched and show up when I restart the iPhone ...
Question : Are my assumptions right ?
3. contacts : Synched with G mail using -> iPhone -> Settings -> Mail contacts calendar -> Exchange -> set up gmail on this choice and switch ON only contacts here. This way my contacts go to gmail ... as you may have guessed this is an exclusive contacts only g mail a/c ! ...so no mail clutter etc
Question : No questions on this
4. iCloud : rescue mail address : Set up and verified . Rescue e mail is NOT the icloud e mail !!
Question : anything else to do ?
5. screen shots taken of the mail set ups : at least main ones. Photos moved to pc
Question : any other settings to be noted ? saved ?
6. what else needs to be done before I hit the delete all settings and erase all data
While restoring

7. Since I do NOT want the "other" or unidentified data to pop up again and eat space, where should I or how should I restore ? I am told I should not restore from PC backup ... so how should I restore ?
8. Apps : I have downloaded dozen*s* of apps, but do not have all of them live. i.e. i.ve deleted quite a few on the iPhone
Question : What happens when I restore ? will all the deleted apps also pop up or what ?
and should I download apps one by one or ?
9. app , mail, screen lock etc etc passwords : Example BBM user name password, mail user name password etc ?
Question : will all these re set and should I re enter these ? or how does it work ?
10. I have a data plan and contract with a carrier.
Question : should I do anything regarding this data plan, contract or will those automatically come back as I plan to use the same SIM card ?
