Hi all,

With no extensions installed and the only modifications made being TenFourFoxPep, the browser will keep defaulting to Yahoo search. I’ll delete all search engines but Google and DuckDuckGo and it’s fine for awhile.

On the third or fourth restart of the browser, Yahoo is back again and it is the default. had anyone else experienced this?

Thanks.

I think for like a year or two Yahoo actually outbid Google on the 'default search engine of FireFox auction price'. This made Yahoo the default engine. This 'auction' is actually the main source of Mozilla's revenue. TFF is based on such an old FireFox that Yahoo is sill the main engine (although this only happened a few years ago).

Update: Yes, I remembered correctly (November 14th, 2017).

They cut the deal early, was supposed to be through 2019 but I guess Google gave them dumb $$$.

This can almost certainly be changed directly in the source code!!! Grep for yahoo.com, replace relevant finds with google.com...

More info on this here:

And I wondered why Firefox's default settings were so privacy-invasive ... Well, now we know why. :)

I suppose Mozilla's marketing team was just as experienced as Apple's in selling deception and half-truths to the public, then ...

I have had no issues with this. duckduckgo works perfectly as my main opening search engine. I don't use nor will I ever use Google.

They all are, except for Duckduckgo.com which protects privacy. That is my default search engine in LWK and TFF.

That makes some sense. The question is why won’t the settings stick when I change them?

NO ! charge it to DuckDuckGo - your information won’t be sold or taken by them, everything is private and actually DuckDuckGo is gaining ground against google and of course who doesn’t want to see the demise of google ? I certainly do since I know my personal info is private and protected.

DDG rocks. They also have a lightweight version of their site at lite.duckduckgo.com, which works great on older or lower specced ppc macs

This happens seemingly randomly for me. It used to happen 100% of the time but not anymore. Every now and then I'll install TFF on a Mac and it'll do it. I'll change it, and it may or may nor not ignore the setting. Sometimes I'll install TFF on a Mac and it'll use Google. I have no idea why this happens.
I usually change it to duckduckgo, as startpage won't work for some reason. Remember when we could add a search engine without an addon\extension? Sigh.

Oh.. because when I put start page set DuckDuckGo.com - it just goes to it. Or maybe I am not understanding the question.
