Terminal Issues

I can't find much on this, but whenever I launch terminal, the window itself will open but it will take a solid 5-8 seconds to get to the prompt.

Anybody experience this? Suggestions?

I've never had this happen before - it's a new 27" iMac. My old 24" nor MBA have these issues.

My prompt comes up right away, are you all upto date to 10.6.3? I was just working on a friends new Mac the other day and it was only @10.6

10.6.2 - but this is what I've been using on the old iMac as well as MBA without issues.

I'll be updating later today, but I doubt that's the issue.

You might want to check out your hostname and dns settings on your Mac. Slowness when starting a terminal session on a unix/linux system is mostly caused by a dns/hostname problem. For some other ideas: http://superuser.com/questions/31403/how-can-i-speed-up-terminal-app-or-iterm-on-mac-osx
