Hi guys, please I'm a newbie to programming and would love to get genuine insights on this question I am about to ask.
Please what mac os terminal version would you consider the best and beginner friendly?
I am tired of using my traditional terminal cause it's really dull even after configuring most vim plugins and dependencies
even with all that I can't split the terminal pane vertically. Please help me decide on a better version I could get, I have been
seeing credits given to both iTerm and Warp but I still can't decide. Help me out here guys.

I've read your post twice and still can't understand what your issues with Apple's Terminal.app are beyond not being able to split vertically (which you could always do using screen(1) or similar). Since you mention vim, are you sure you are correctly distinguishing between the terminal app, the shell running in the terminal and all the other programs you use in the shell?

yes please I do know what I'm saying and my apologies for not not properly constructing my statement.
But from your experience is it ok for me to get the iTerm2 or is it overrated?
and also what do you think about Neovim?

Certainly ok. iTerm2 is the most popular alternative to Terminal. It is what I use, though I don't use many of its features.

Just to repeat iTerm2 is an alternative to Terminal. It is not an editor like Neovim. For an editor I use BBEdit or Sublime Text

Just curious, what language are you learning? If it's something that can be used with Xcode that lets you split vertically.

well currently learning web dev(self taught) but I'm also in a SE program a well, learning C at the moment before we move to python

You don't necessarily have to use a terminal-based editor. (Seems like colleges/schools love teaching it this way though, at least mine did.)

If you want something like an IDE and better window management, Visual Studio Code can handle C/C++, Python, and other languages.

I'm happy with Terminal.app from Apple, and as for an editor I use the Emacs from https://emacsformacosx.com/ which is the only place where I regularly use a horizontal or vertical split.

i'm also very fine with the default terminal.
but i'm also used to the comfort level of computers from the late 70's or early 80's 😂

some swear by things like auto-complete, but generally... nothing should really be a show stopper and even the most basic shell won't hold you back in any way, as long as you have access to the commands that are important for your work.

Neovim configured with Lua on Alacritty (installed via cargo(rust)) on Apple Silicon... 👨‍🍳 💋
