If I buy the Iphone at an Apple store, and cancel the AT&T contract the next day, is there a way I can keep the phone ? How much will they charge me ?

They will want the phone back. If you were able to keep the phone they may charge you an additional 200 dollars.

I don't mind paying the $175 ETF, question is whether the activation and first month will be waived ?

if you cancel before 30 days you return the phone and don't pay the ETF. If you cancel after 30 days you can keep the phone, you get charged the ETF plus you have to pay one monthes bill. Estimated total cost could be ETF (175) + months bill (80) + activation fee (35) + the phone cost itself.

If I buy from AT&T store online, and receive it via mail, how do I return the phone if I want to cancel within 3 days? do I ship it back or return to a local store ?

Im not sure, but what difference does how you return it make as long as you return it.

I got my activation fee waived, and I canceled the data plan by calling from a different phone and saying I gave my iPhone away.
