Terrible data speed, options?

My data speed over 3G has been terrible all day. Last night I downloaded the FCC Speed Test app and my fastest speed over 3G was 2.0mps. Today, I have rarely reached over 1.0mps and most of the time it is under .5mps. I've been told by other people in the area that are on 3GS phones that they are pulling well over 2.0mps on average.

So, my question. Will restoring my phone and not going from a backup do anything at all? Is it even worth a shot? I'm about to pull my hair out.
 
One bump.

In the palm (don't have my hand wrapped around it) it averages .5mps.

On the table infront of me without me touching it at all, it averages close to 2.0mps.

Is my hand just not compatible?
 
Well I have no idea what "mps"s are. Are you talking about megabits or Megabytes?


I live in upstate NY and I got about 2000kbps down and 1264kbps up. The down speed is a little improvement, BUT THE UP IS A HUGE IMPROVEMENT. On the tests on my 3G I would get ~1500kbps and for upload like 200kbps. It's like a 6X increase in upload speed.


Maybe it's just where you're situated?
 
I live in KC, and was doing speed test in the speedtest.net app today. I was getting anywhere from 2500kbps-4200kbps down and 1000 kbps or so up. If I had my thumb in the bottom left corner I would get 200-300kbps down and about the same 200-300kbps up. FTW.
 
Ok. To clarify.

Down is about 500kbps on average, highest I have seen was 2000kbps and that was once today.

I have tried it all around the city, in my office, in my car, etc.

I'm consistently getting 1500kps up though...

I still don't see why a phone would need such a good upload speed.
 
Ive been getting double the speed I was getting on my 3GS.

So what I'm getting at...is there something wrong with my phone?

Maybe I'll try and restore just for grins.
