terrible macbook scratching fan noise

I have had my 2008 unibody macbook for sometime now. 3 weeks ago there was a clunking sound in the fan constantly. picture a Ford Model T sound like " dugdugdugdugdug" or something i cant explain the sound.

suddenly today it got a ton worse. now sounds like a lawnmower. Here is a video of someones macbook that sounds EXACTLY like mine.

this sound really worries me. i dont have apple care anymore. what should i do?

It looks like something you could probably replace yourself:

iFixit has the fan for $50, although you may be able to find it more cheaply elsewhere.

Mine has the same problem off and on when the fan is on a high speed, it sounds like the fan is hitting its housing......i DO have Applecare and it will be going in this week for that, and a number of other problems that have cropped up........
