Hi everyone,

Today I’ll be getting an almost maxed out 16inch (except 8TB, I’ll get 2TB and 32GB Ram).

I have a 2017 15inch MBP. So I can make a video comparing both.

I see that there are problems about coil whine, screen ghosting, screen temp being too warm, popping sound etc.

Let me know about which tests you want and I’ll do it.

Will it blend?

More in general, do you feel it is a worthy upgrade from a 2017 (specs?) MBP? What can you do on the 16inch that wasn't possible or less ideal to run or work with on the 15inch?

Congrats on your new purchase! I have the same model.

Please do the ghosting / "text smearing" test. Refer to https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/16-macbook-pro-ghosting.2212842/post-28060845.

1. Post your manufacturer date. You can get it from coconutBattery app.
2. Also post your LCD panel model. You can get that by running the following cmd in Terminal:
ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

Thanks!

Are you sure we need your tests when many of us have had ours for over a week and are fine with it?
Not everyone on this forum has a 16" in front of them. Mine has yet to arrive. :)

OP: A screen comparison would be nice. Apple's decision to go with 226 PPI and keep the other specs the same was disappointing, but I suppose I can live with it as long as it's an improvement from my 2012 Retina model.

Take a good look at the gap between the display and the body when the lid is closed. I've luckily got a good one, but most display models I've seen are typically nice on the front of the machine, but uneven on the left vs. right side (and usually I've seen the gap be worse on the right side).

Just use it man, I bought mine last Thursday and apart from the popping sound (fixed with the latest update) I haven't had any of the issues posted on this forum. I'm not looking for the issues either.

I bought the machine to work and omg this thing is a great update coming from a mid 2014 13" rMBP.

Obviously, if it has an obvious flaw you will know immediately and just act accordingly.
