testing black screen of death?

ok so i have decided to get my macbook pro 2.53 ghz. i would like to know how do i test for the black screen of death problem. i just wana test all this stuff out at the shop so i dont have to bring it again to change it for problems. Are there any other things that i should look out for besides aesthetics?thanks.

I'm also wondering how one could test a crash of mac or of any OS. It doesn't make sense

im sorry i didnt explain that part properly. what i mean is the black screen of death which happens due to failure in gpu on the alu macbook pro.many ppl have had this issue.
