I have had my mac pro 6,1 for over a week: 6 core,64 Gig, 1TB SSD, D500

It's been running well, two minor hiccups:

1) with my current cabling for dual Nec 27" the system has some problems with sleep/awake. I will post those issues separately.

2) Standard USB 2 Apple wired keyboard skips a few keys every now and then using a standard Apple USB extender. So the keyboard would reach, I plugged it into a Anker Hub and it seems to work fine now.

Given all the horse power I now have, I wanted to be able to better test new software and thought there may be some folks who have the same issue if you are doing any serious work with a Mac.

I can't afford to be down with software problems, and have had major issues with print drivers from Epson/Apple who point the finger at each other but take months to sort out software conflicts.

To prevent this, I now load my entire system into a Virtual Machine (I use Fusion) and then run it on my 6,1. This allows me to install new software onto an exact copy of my 6,1 (the VM) - test it and if I am happy, promote the changes back to my host configuration.

In other words I run two copies of Mavericks on one machine at the same time.

The 6,1 runs all of this flawlessly.

Here is how I configured it if anyone is interested: http://jeffgardner.ca/Blog/?p=738
