I setup my iPhone 6 to USB tether to my PC and ran it through http://amibehindaproxy.com/ which said I am running a proxy and showed the headers HTTP_X_Forwarded_For and Via. My PC had an IP on 166.x.x.x and my iPhone on 107.x.x.x, both AT&T's network. Fine.

The issue starts when I disable tethering and my iPhone is showing that it's still behind a proxy and coming up with the 166.x.x.x IP. If I turn airplane mode on/off to refresh my IP and Google "what is my ip" Google initially shows a 107 address, but on a refresh shows that 166 address that AT&T appears to use for tethered devices.

Can anyone explain what is going on? Why is still occurring even with tethering turned off?
