Tether iPhone for use as modem

I remember right after the iPhone came out that there was talk about using the phone as a modem.

I could do this with my Blackberry. Can I do it with the iPhone? Where are the settings?

If not, why?

My guess is that AT&T doesn't want people to use a $20/month data plan for tethering when their other data plans that allow tethering start at $60/month.

There was a hack that allowed tethering, but it didn't look too easy, and I haven't heard if it still works after the 1.1.1 upgrade.

Its both possible and illegal and could lead to the termination of your service if they find out.
