Okay, I jailbroke my friend's iphone 3G in tethered via redsn0w 0.9.8b3 with the firmware 4.2.1 (8C148) for the iphone 3G. Then, he encountered a situation in which he had to power down his phone. So when he came back to me to reboot in tethered mode, I tried to do a hard reset (sleep+home button), but It would't work. The apple logo just stays until it runs out of batteries. Occasionally the screen goes black and the apple logo pops back up. Anyone know the remedy to this? Thanks!

The iPhone 3G was always untethered on 4.2.1. Use the latest redsn0w and rejailbreak it.

Plug it it, wait for the screen to turn on, press and hold both buttons for ten seconds, release the power button while still holding the home button for another 15 seconds. Your iPhone is now in DFU mode.

Note: Ignore what ever the screen does. At the end of the 15 second home button hold, the screen should be black/off. If it is not, then you got your timing wrong. Try again.

The screen wont turn off to begin with, its stuck at the boot logo, and Ive tried putting it into DFU mode that way a multitude of times.

Is there any other way around this?

If the iPhone will not go into DFU mode, there is a hardware problem. One of the buttons is stuck.

hi i have the same problem with my phone. were you able to find out what hardware problem was causing this?

how bout using blackra1n to put it in DFU mode, then use redsn0w to jailbreak o.0 wonder if it would work....

No, blackrain is not used to put it in dfu mode, you can use other programs for that.
But like intell said above you dont need to turn it off to put it in dfu mode in order to JB. You can start without that step and continue with the steps in order to time it perfect.
