Have been tethering my MacBook Air to my iPhone a couple times in the past few days, but the data use isn't showing with AT&T. When I text *DATA# in the morning after the previous days tethering use I keep expecting big jumps in my data use but it's only going up by ~10MB.

Also, when I log on to ATT it is showing the same usage as the *DATA#. Anyone else seeing this?

Did you change plan recently? If so this might be the cause.
For some reason when you change plan they can't show correct data usage till the next bill cycle.

No, I changed to the Mobile Shared Plan back when it came out and have been getting accurate data usage checks. It wasn't until recently when I have had to tether to the Air in the past week that the data usage checks have not been tracking correctly.

Anyone tethering that IS seeing their data usage tracked correctly in respect to tethering?

Have you tried logging into your att account online? Or are you just sending the command from sms?

Both *DATA# and the Online Account Management show the exact same thing.

For instance, my billing period started on 11/2/12 so by Monday I had checked the usage and it was at ~5MB, which I expected because we were mostly at home over the weekend in wifi. On Monday I had to do quite a bit of tethering to my Air, was expecting at minimum a few hundred MB. But I check my data usage this morning and I'm only around 15MB total. Something is just not adding up.

Use the Customer Service phone number on your bill and call to ask about it. They'll be able to explain if anything has changed WRT the way those numbers are displayed.

Before I changed from Unlimited plan to Mobile Share last month, my text messages were displayed separately but now are no longer shown as a line item. Data is lumped together.

Yeah I had to call Customer Service to day since my bill for last month came today. We had gone over over our 6GB limit by 1.5GB! I was shocked because as of Nov. 1st we were sitting right at 4.5GB as per AT&T online and through *DATA# and our billing period ends on Nov. 2nd.

The lady at AT&T was very nice and reversed the charges for the overages right away without me even asking and then transferred me to a "data specialist". Well I then had to re-explain the situation to them, and she proceeded to tell me to download the app My Data Manager to keep up with my data usage.

I then asked if their own data tracking is wrong or insufficient, to which she replied that their's is just an estimate and are not to taken as concrete numbers.

Yes, my tethering has been accurately reported.

What does your data usage as reported by your phone say? Does it come close to the online reporting?

I just researched the My Data Manager app and it's apparently not ready for iOS6 reporting. Not in the way that the app is viewed but in the way that it is able to divide the data reporting. Developer note says to wait for update. :)

The received is on the same track as online data usage reporting, but the sent data doesn't look like it is showing up. Which I think the sent data is where the tethering shows up, correct?
