I just updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3 and the tethering option seems to have disappeared, my carrier supports it but there is no option in the Settings > General > Network.

Have I missed something obvious?

Did you not see all the other threads on the hotspot feature also talking about tethering?

No, feel free to point them out.

Anyway, the Personal Hotspot feature did not show on the main screen of the Settings app either, even after a hard reboot.

I had to reset the network settings before the Personal Hotspot feature showed.
Apparently a small number of users have seen this behaviour.

I am having the same problem. How do you "Reset Network Settings"??

Never mind figured it out.

Odd. It showed up right away for me. The "Set Up Personal Hotspot" button was there, right after the update. Not that I'd ever use it..

Well I have reset the network and then reset everything. I have verified I have a tethering plan and I still don't see any option in my setting to enable this thing. WTF?!

Solved:
I had something in my backup that was keeping me from seeing the hotspot options. I installed as a new phone and it works perfectly. I had been jailbreaked so something in there must have been an issue.

For Jailbroken

If you had that phone jailbroken before it might give that error. You can take ur iphone into recovery mode and than restore everything should go ok.

To clear things up

So now it automatically will tether when i connect to my computer to sync to iTunes?

Got it figured

Ok for those who havent figured it out yet. The Personal Hotspot is the new update. You can use your iPhone now as a WiFi hotspot but if you still need to connect with a cable or want to to tether - you plug in the iPhone to the computer with your cable and then turn on the personal hotspot button and voila you are tethering again.

I like this as i had this as an app when i had a jailbreak iPhone 3 - now iPhone have released it on the 4 this is great.

I dont know if it works on the 3's or 3S' but it does on the new 4 update.

Hope this helps all.

Yes.

It also works with the eye-fi camera card.

I am planning to buy an wifi only iPad, i have an iPhone 4, how do i use my iPhone 4 3g without having to upgrade my AT&T plan? I did checkout the eye-fi camera card, but i am not sure how it would let me create a hotspot for iPad? Can you please explain?

Well yeah, you have to pay the provider to be able to tether without a jailbreak (at least with at&t you do).
