Tethering iPhone to 802 not 3g/4g

Weird situation. I am traveling for work. At a client location where my laptop (IBM) will connect to the network but will not authenticate for some reason. My iPhone will connect and authenticate. How do I use the iPhone to connect to the client’s wireless 802 network and then use that connection to get on the internet on my laptop. I basically want to tether to a wireless network not a 3g or 4g signal.
