Is there some way to setup a wireless router to access the internet over the cellular network? I have a device that only has an ethernet connection (which is plugged into the wifi access point) that I would like to get on-line.

Is it possible to connect the iPhone to a Macbook using a USB cable or bluetooth, and then setup the wifi access point to use the Macbook as a gateway? That kind of sounds like how I was doing it in the past, but using another wifi router as a gateway.

Yes you can tether the iPhone to a Mac then connect the Mac via cat5/6 to the router and tell the Mac to share your tethered connection.
