Ok so I have been playing around with tethering option since the 3.0GM release last week. Got my new iPhone 3GS yesterday and started by installing the AT&T_US.ipcc file that I had working on my 3G last week. It changed the Carrier to AT&T 5.0 although Visual Voicemail was then broken!

Then I found the fix of changing the Voicemail settings from wap.cingular back to acds.voicemail. This worked to recover visual voicemail, however once I started to try and tether again, the setting for tethering went away.

I then restored back to the original 3.0 OS and after restore the carrier settings were reverted back to AT&T 4.0. I then decided to try and load the mobile.config from http://help.benm.at/help.php. This loaded the new profile, and the carrier settings were set back to AT&T 5.0. Tethering had returned, but again the VVM was disabled. Again the Voicemail setting under Settings> General> Network> Cellular Data Network was back to wap.cingular

So I removed the profile and decided to use the generator to try and create my own mobile.config file with the voicemail set to acds.voicemail. i generated and the Cellular Data Network setting only reflected wap.cingular not the change I had made in the generator.

I am stuck at the moment and would like any help from someone who is on AT&T, and has AT&T 5.0 carrier file, with tethering and Visual Voicemail working simultaneously. Thanks!

Update: Most people who say they have VVM working have not actually made a call to themselves and left a message. I can see all my old messages but no new messages get delivered once I am on AT&T 5.0 carrier file with Cellular Data Network voicemail setting to wap.cingular
