Have a VZ iPhone 5 with tethering under the data share plan.

What faster BT or WiFi?

Also, which gives better battery life?

Turn them both off and use USB if you can. Will use less battery making it less warm (Wi-Fi, makes the iPhone 5 hot after awhile), and as fast as the data can reach.

Thanks, I was initially getting some very fast speed indications over BT, but I may have still been on wifi because now they are all coming in slow.

One of the problems I find with WiFi, however, is that it doesn't always show up in the list of networks available to connect to. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, definitely for my laptop, but for ipad i will need to use wifi.

On the iPhone go to the personal hotspot spot setting then try to connect to it.

This is a dated thread, any updates?? Specifically I’m looking at tethering options from my iPhone 5S to my iPad 2. Is WiFi still the best option or is BT 4.0 on my iPhone going to be better??

Bluetooth is more secure.

I cannot find any current information to support that. Per the link below Bluetooth can be as secure as WiFi, with older versions being less secure. Of course it depends on if we're both using the same definition of "secure".
