hi, wanted to start a new thread with better title, now that this is confirmed to work for AT&T as well (i'm on swisscom and found this in a swisscom board, worked great for me)
go to www.benm.at/help/ with your iPhone and then install the tethering profile for AT&T, that's it!

see here, it's confirmed to work

original thread here

search the forum, there are at least 10 of the exact same threads

really? i did search here for ways to get tethering to work but found none, stumbeld across that page on the swisscom forum, searched for that page here and found no mention of that page here.
but actually if this is that commonly known, why all the buzz about enabeling tethering, it's really simple here

Perhaps, but I do not think there is one magical one that:
1) Turns tethering on
2) Allows MMS
3) Does not break Visual Voice Mail.

Does this magical .ISPP exist? I do not think so.

hmm, don't know, mms still works for me, tethering does now and i have never ever used visual voice mail, so no idea wheter this is affected. by now i have just seen solutions that require a specific iTunes version to install the ipcc files and this here allows a web install without iTunes

Can you point me to the thread? There are too many to search through on this site.

Thanks,

John

Won't AT&T think it's a bit fishy to see a lot of people logging in with the same user name and password for internet tethering?

(Isn't that all the profile is doing?)

I verified that Bluetooth tethering also works on my Macbook Pro :)

USB and Bluetooth tethering both are working.

Does installing the mobileconfig automatically enable MMS for at&t customers (I won't have my iPhone 3G back for another day or two, and I wanted to double check to make sure I don't have to install the iTunes pre-release and do all of that work)

I added this but don't see how to tether with my macbook pro. Any instructions?

I don't think this works anymore with the official 3.0 released today.

I installed the thing and I don't see any tethering options in Settings>General>Network.

I'd rather have 10 how-to threads instead of 50 "CAN I HAZ INTERNETS?" threads. spreading knowledge while stomping stupidity, why not. :)

Tethering How To - Damned, it DOES work!

downloaded the file. Went to Settings/Gereral/network and lo and behold, Tetthering was an option which I configured and turned on. I got it to work via a USB connection with the 3G phone connected to the MPB. I disconnected my MPB from my home WiFi connection and Damned. It works! Surprisingly fast. :)

I Then DISCONNECTED it and turned tethering OFF. Not sure what ATT is going to do about this but I do know they plan to charge for it when its official here in the USA so rather than get high colonic from ATT in the form of a massive bill, I will wait...

With regards to a How To, well, here it is from memory:

First attach your iphone to your labptop via USB connection then,
1. using your iphone 3G, use Safari to go to this web site: www.benm.at/help/
2. download the file onto your iphone
3. You will be asked what carrier you are using...I used ATT
4. You can now go to Settings/Gereral/network configure tethering.
5.You will know if you are tethering because, as many photos now show, a Blue box at the top of the
iphone display with the word Tethering displayed.

Again, be warned, ATT is planning to charge for this service so we all may get a big surprise in our bill if you do this.

Wow i just updated to 3.0 through itunes and ran the link through safari. The option turned up in my network settings and it works amazingly! But like you guys im going to take my precautions and not use this feauture until i find out how AT&T will charge and if we are being charged presently. Thanks everyone!

USB and Bluetooth tethering both are working.

Any help getting bluetooth tethering to work? I can connect over USB just fine, but I can't get a connection over bluetooth. It also will pair fine, but it won't hold a connection between the 2 devices.
