Long time lurker, first time poster.
I just pre-ordered my first iPad yesterday like so many others. I am very excited to see the Retina display in person. I think the iPhone display is very nice, but the screen is too small for my tastes to make it a "game changer" compared to other similar devices. The iPad screen, on the other hand, may be just that. I think those that are calling this iteration a disappointment are woefully misled. Let me explain. When I consider a purchase, I ask myself: how long until this device will be out of date? In the context of the iPad, how long before the retina display will be out of date (or, how long until some tech company makes screens *better* than the retina display)? I think the answer to that is at least two years, probably longer. Maybe others have more insight into this. Therefore, you're pretty much "future-proofed" for a good while if you get this new iPad. I like that. A redesign would be nice, but the screen is the most important factor, in my opinion.
I ordered the white 16gb wifi version because I was unwilling to pay for capped monthly data. I already own a Droid 4g phone with unlimited data through Verizon.
My question concerns tethering. I've seen some youtube videos on how to tether an android phone to an iPad, but I'm too much of a novice to feel comfortable doing it. Does it require me rooting my phone? I'd much prefer not to do that, as it seems complicated and risky. Tethering should be easy to do in my estimation. I feel like I should be able to get blazing fast 4g speeds with my wifi iPad 3 anywhere I have my phone, which is everywhere!
Any thoughts much appreciated.
