TetherMe and MyWi question

When looking at the info for these app's why does it say "
Note:Before using or purchasing, please check with your cell phone provider that internet tethering is included with your plan(there may be additional charges for tethering)."
Does this mean that I need to get tethering on my current plan and then pay for MyWi? Or can I just pay the $20 for MyWi and ATT wouldn't "know" about the tethering?

This is simply a case of CYA (cover your ass). By their very nature, these apps are meant to circumvent this. Especially in the case of TetherMe, if you had a tethering plan from your provider, the app/mod would be totally unnecessary. MyWi does provide a bit more functionality, but still the same thing.

Yeah, you don't need the tethering plan. However, don't go overboard because I feel like that'd be awfully suspicious if you had insane amounts of data usage without a tethering plan.
