Is there a way to let random textors to me get a message that I am out of the country and to please email or at least know I will not respond soon. I know I can get an app that both of us can use if I plan ahead but I am concerned about an unexpected important text from business associates.

Nope. Maybe there is an app for Jailbroken iPhones.

There are no official ways to do this, though I suppose you could forward your texts to a Google Voice number and go from there. I'm pretty sure those support automatic replies.
