Text Edit Autosave in 10.5

Hi guys, I was working a long time on a file and hit save as just to later be surprised to see that I saved the past version of the text. That is, before the new additions.

This means that all my work is lost now. So, is there a way to access past versions of a saved file in Text Edit?

By the way, Time Machine was off the whole time.
