For the third time I have gone to open a text edit file only to be met with a prompt that reads, "File could not be opened because it is not in the right format". Underneath, in smaller letters, it also says, "The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in a different format than you might expect".
The problem is that I don't see how the file would've gotten corrupted, I have no clue what "truncated" means in this context, and I don't understand how the format would have been magically changed without my having done so.
The only explanation I can think of is that something happened when I copy-and-pasted text from a Microsoft word document (which I'd imported from my PC to an external hard drive) into the text edit file. Could this be the case?
And more importantly, how do I fix this??? I happen to have some important things in that file that I can't readily replace, so I'll have lots of love for anyone who can save me here...
