I'm thinking of replacing my dying Palm TX with a touch and want to know if I can put simple .txt files on it and read them? Also, is there another way to put a bunch of photos on without using iTunes? Thanks.

There are plenty of apps in the app store that will allow you to view text files. I use Readdle Docs, but you can certainly find other cheaper options (maybe even free)

iTunes also allows for syncing of photos.

Great.

I was hoping for a simple drag and drop solution. I have a bunch of .jpg files on an sd card I'd like to put on the touch without putting them in iTunes.

all you have to do is in itunes, in the ipod tab, click photo's, and then click sync from a specified folder. Just select the sd and all your photo's will sync
:D
