Just got an Apple Watch (Aluminum SG, series 4). I received it as a gift at work, very happy with the watch, have everything setup the way I want it, nothing too fancy. However I am curious if there is a way to get regular texts on the watch over WiFi. On my iPhone I have text message forwarding enabled and I am able to see my iPad and get texts there, but my Apple Watch doesn't show up in the list. I do get texts on my watch when I am near my iPhone, but often I leave it on my desk and I am in other parts of the building during work and some people who text me do not have an iPhone. Other than that, it is the only feature missing, not a deal breaker by any means. WiFi calling on it works great and so does everything else, just cannot seem to get texts on it unless I have my iPhone nearby.
