I notice that when I receive text messages, many times they do not alert me from my phone. My Apple Watch will ding to alert me, but my iPhone (sitting next to me) does not wake up the display to show me. If I wake the phone, the notification is there, but it doesn't wake the phone and show me. If the phone is already awake (I'm using it), I see the notification when it comes in.

I've not nothing set or focus modes on that would stop notifications from waking my phone to show me.

Is this normal behavior because I have an Apple Watch and when in close proximity it send alerts to my watch instead?

To add, I have noticed if I am working on my Mac Mini or MBP, I will see the badge notification for iMessage (I only use badge notifications), but, no notification on the watch or iPhone till a minute or so later.

So, all that to say, @Apple_Robert is onto something there...

Thanks for the input and glad to hear that it's operating as expected, but then the question is, how can I get notifications on my iPhone regardless of my AW state or MacBook state? Surely there is a way to make the iPhone the "master"?

Nope
