Text Messages on iPhone4S

I am not getting any text messages nor are my sent texts being received for non iPhone users. I haven't synced to my computer yet (still at work). Is this normal?

My sister who got the phone today was able to text me and me text back.

It may be AT&T getting hammered with activations and data today. So many have been unable to activate that I'm sure the servers and towers are just so strained. Give it a day to cool down.
