text messaging sucks because of lag

I have the latest software update but the keyboard lag when I type text messages is insane. It's so bad that I can't stand texting sometimes. Does anyone have a tip of trick to fix this?

Also - I have had to turn my 3G off and go with Edge because when I try to check mail with 3G on, it just spins and spins and spins. I get a "connecting..." message forever. And I'm in a major metro area (Philly). Is this because Philly's 3G sucks? The iphone's 3G chip sucks? Or did I get lemon?

try force closing safari and/or mail then going to sms. the lag should be (temporarily) gone. honestly this also annoys me to no end. same with the contact list lag.
