Text notifications no longer on phone just watch

My iPhone X is on iOS 12 and my Apple Watch three is on watchOS 5. When I receive a text message almost every time I will get a audible notification on my watch and the red dot. However when I picked my phone up there is no notification on lock screen or when I unlock that I have a text message.

I have tried restarting my phone and my watch and the problem persists. Is anybody else experiencing this and know of a fix?

Right on, thanks for the link and info.
Just for comparisons sake,
I just tried it at home on my wife’s ip8+ on iOS 12 and series 0 aw on watch os4 and it behaves more how I remember...I sent her a text and her watch dinged, but the text still showed on the ip8 + lock screen almost immediately.
Re tested on my iPx and and after about 40 seconds or so after receiving a text ding on my watch, then it showed up on my phone lock screen.
