Hi,

I am trying to take advantage of the text replacement/expansion feature that has been a part of OS X for some time now, but am finding it hard to understand when it will and when it won't work.

To be clear, I am talking about the System Preferences > Keyboard > Text panel with the Replace/With columns; allowing you to type 'omw' which is then expanded to 'On my way'.

The function seems to work ok in Apple apps (duh) such as Safari, Mail, Messages etc... but it is hit and miss as to what 3rd party apps this seems to work with.

I cannot get it working in Google Chrome, which is the the app I would really love for it to work in. The same can be said for Firefox. Office 2011 is a flop.

It does appear to work in Spotify, Skype, MacUpdate Desktop, 1Password, Transmit.

Any got any ideas as to why it fails to work in Chrome, and a way that I can get it to work?

I don't really want to use a 3rd party app as I want the text shortcuts to be synced across my Macs and my iOS devices.

Thanks
