Hey All,
I have for a long time used the built in text to speech engine in OSX, in 10.8 I had remapped my "caps lock" to "f13" and then mapped that to speak the selected text in system prefs. This allowed me to select text in any program then hit caps lock and the text would be read to me. After the upgrade to 10.9 and the new iWork programs this has stopped working correctly.
The shortcut still works in all programs except iWork. I thought I could fix this by going in to system prefs > Dictation & speech > text to speech and disabling "speak selected text when the key is pressed".
Then going in to system prefs > keyboard > shortcuts > app shortcuts and assigning my caps key to "start speaking". This fixed the problem in iWork but then my shortcut would not work in other programs which did not have that menu item.
Is there any way of having one key that can speak selected text in iWork and other programs?
