textedit error message...

this just started yesterday:

when i try to save a textedit doc, i get this message:

"The document “Untitled” could not be saved as “whatever”. The file doesn’t exist."

any ideas? never saw this before. i rebooted, but it happens with ANY new document... i CAN save to the desktop, but seemingly, no where else...
