I find myself using TextEdit a lot for everyday note-taking and even more advanced stuff but have missed a couple of features which I've recently figure out it can do after all!

Resize or edit images
Inserting an image among the text is a matter of drag & drop into the TextEdit window, but what if the image is too big or you want to edit it some other way?
There's no way to edit images in TextEdit itself, but.....

1) ensure that the TextEdit RTFd is saved (CMD-s) or else you can't edit the image
2) double-click on the image (this will open it in Preview)
2) resize the image in Preview (Tools-Adjust size)
3) switch over to TextEdit. You should see the image change (there might be a time lag of a couple of seconds before you see the changes in TextEdit

Column editing
Have you ever wanted to copy/paste just a column of text instead everything from line to line?
Instead of marking an area off line-by-line as usual, then CMD-c (copy) you hold down the ALT key (which turns the cursor into a crosshair) and while doing that you can mark off the area you want. When that's done just copy it as usual (CMD-c) and paste (CMD-v) where you want it.

So... any other useful, hidden tricks around for TextEdit?
