Texts sending and receiving is slow

I thought I read a thread on this but am unable to locate it. We are getting a delay on sending text messages from the 4S.

Anyone else having this problem? Is there a fix?

iMessage is on by default. How do I turn it off. Is that the reason texts are slow?

It will try and send via imessage first, if that fails (because the phone you are sending to hasn't got a data connection for example) it will then resend the message as a standard SMS.

you can turn off imessage in settings -> Messages so that it defualts to using SMS if you prefer.

Yea I think after 5minutes of trying to send it as an iMessage if it doesn't go through it will send as a SMS.
