Texts without phone?

So this morning I accidentally grabbed my wife's iPhone instead of mine, and she brought my phone to me around lunchtime, but all morning any texts my phone received still came to my watch. I thought the phone and watch had to be together for the watch to receive texts?? Thought it was cool to still get texts.

Gotcha, yeah I am at the office, and my phone was at home, both known networks, I just didn't realize the watch would connect to my work wifi without the phone.

thats pretty awesome. I was always under the assumption that they both had to be connected to the same network or within x feet of each other

Thats what I thought, But yet every text I sent my wife from her phone to my phone (Since she had mine) came to my watch lol
