TF2 on Steam in XP Boot Camp Help

I recently installed Steam in my Windows XP partiton in boot camp. I have a late 2008 MacBook aluminum base model. I downloaded Team Fortress 2 and ran it but after adjusting the settings and running in Direct X 8, I still get HL2 engine errors. This happens in the middle of playing or sometimes when spectating while waiting to respawn. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.
