Went from the Air M1 to a 16" which after two days I found too big, so swapped for the 14" which after a day I switched for the 13" M1 Pro ?

Not sure what it is, but I prefer this one. The difference between the 13" and 14" base models is $1100 in Australia. I just couldn't find that much extra value on the new model and will add an iPad Pro to my bag instead.

I think this is probably true for a hell of a lot of people. The tradeoffs for a lot of people are simply not worth it.

I have heard many people talking about the new macbook pros who have never owned the last M1 version and have no frame of reference for how good they were.

If you don't need more than one monitor connected and haven't got a seriously heavy duty workflow the M1 13" models are absolutely stunning. There are definitely some downsides to this 14" vs the previous 13" I had. The battery life was miles better on the 13", it felt a good deal lighter and thinner despite it objectively being very very similar and its far cheaper.

That being said, if you need the extra grunt or dual monitors then the 14/16" make sense over the 13". The 14" certainly doesn't have the wow factor for me that the 13" did but thats partially because the 13" was crazy good and became my benchmark for all apple laptops going forwards.

This. I completely understand why many people are jumping to the MBP. The MBA of the past with intel delivered mediocre performance. So did the intel MBP but it was enough of an improvement despite it still being lacking that many chose it.

Today, even the fanless M1 MBA is a better choice than the intel based MBP. It is going to take a while for people to realise just how much Apple Silicon has changed the landscape.

amascum good guys and officeworks here in 'stralia have all macs including limited supply of the new 14" and 16" MBP's @ 10% off atm so decided to grab a 14" 1tb base config at a great price, very impressed -

and must say that totes disagree with your ass essment of the new Pros when compared with the M1 airs - the 14 is just alot more capable and a lot beefier all round than the anemic air models: I guess $1100 for more creative juice in a tidy/tiny package of the 14" pro is not for everyone - its a shame some people have to return 2 new and amazing machines because they feel like being cheap, inturn depriving other users of the chance to snag one of these amazing new machines at launch when they are in SHORT supply......?

delivery of most new MBP's has slipped to nearly 30 days+ atm thanks to supply constraints and a holes buying and returning multiple machines....... good one brah

For me, it was the exact opposite.

I own a M1 MBA and ordered a 14“ MBP with the intention to test it. I was very sure that I will return the 14“ within 14 days because weight, price etc.

I just sold my MBA.

The 14“ screen is such an incredible update over the MBA screen … wow!
After a few days I actually prefered the design of the 14“ (don‘t know why, it looks more modern to me). The compile times in my workflow improved a lot too. Battery life is about the same for me

The only thing that I don‘t love is the weight. However it doesn’t bother me as much as I thought it would…

So I agree: thank god for the 14 day return window. Otherwise I would have never ordered the 14“ :)

The difference in the US is $700, until you configure the 13” to have the same 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD as the base 14”. At that point the price gap drops to just $300.

If you really only need 8/256, then yeah, save the money.
