Thank you all, got a new Mac Pro

Hi All,
Long-time lurker, I registered to write this. I have been following the Mac Pro section for a long time to help me decide what mac I should get. I finally purchased a 2.66 Quad Xeon Mac Pro with 6GB RAM, 640GB HDD and the Radeon 4870 card. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions that I gleaned from reading this forum.

I got it through the student developer account. I am an amateur photographer, doing digital and a bit of MF film. I also got a 1TB WD Caviar Black from Newegg.

Sweet,Hope it rocks,I'm enjoying my 5th gen Power Mac right now,only 867Mhz,1GB RAM and 2 120GB HD's lol not much but i like it,way better than a Pc.

Yup, I still can't get over the processing power available. Had a small issue with the sound settings not sticking after sleep, fixed it now.

i think i want a mac pro, but i could get the refurb for $2149 or I could get a 24" iMac AND a MBP for the same price really. So IDK

It is pretty fast, the only time I notice the CPU is when I play youtube videos on Safari, goes to about 13% and the occasional TM backup. I haven't had much time to play around with RAW pictures yet, (deadlines at school). In a couple of weeks...
