Woot.

I was checking Craigslist this morning to see if there were any great deals on Apple stuff, and came across an ad from someone who wanted to trade a 8gig 3G iPhone for the old 2G model. Seems he couldn't get it unlocked for tmobile.

I sent off an email, and an hour later I'm the new owner of a shiny flawless 3G. My old 2G was pretty beat up, scratches and even a couple dents, but it worked with his tmobile sim card. The 3G doesn't have a mark on it. Surprisingly faster, too. Had I known, I would have made the switch awhile ago.

I can't believe I upgraded to a 3G for $5 in gas.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

Cool!

Good deal!!... other then the fact its probably stolen. I know some people might not care they just want a phone that works but i personally would have asked for some cash difference.

thats awesome, lucky you, congrats.
Now if only I can exchange my cracked 2g for new 3g...hmmm.

Wow, that's pretty cool... Surprised he made the deal. I would've wanted to trade a flawless 3G for a flawless original

I honestly thought that, too. But I met him at his office, a very nice building. Didn't seem like he would need to steal anything.

Plus the original receipt was in the box.

I was (and still am) surprised he didn't want cash, too.

I did find one small flaw, a tiny little scratch near the dock connector.

Actually I see this type of deal every once in a while on my local CL. I don't know if 3G is bad in this area and people want a 2G so they don't have to pay the extra data cost, or what may be the reason. I've never tried it myself because I have no interest in the 3G. When my contract is up in September I will probably go back to a dumb phone and sell my iPhone.

That's pretty cool. I know I got my original iPhone off Craiglist the day of the 3G launch for 150...good deal if you ask me.

Been awhile..

Since I last posted, but just had to mention my doing a Craigs deal yesterday. Guy was wanting $450 for a black, in great shape, 16gb 3g iphone. It was upgraded to 2.2.1 firmware, so that's probably why he was having problems selling. I offered him $430 and it was done. I'd previously ordered a turbo sim card from Amazon and it works flawlessly. The only 'problem' with the phone are light marks on back from a previous case he was using. Very happy with my purchase.

Good deal. You sure aren't going to find many deals like that today. Most 2G iPhones go for at least $250 (locked) locally, and up to $350 (unlocked).

I got a perfect never used 2g 8 gig refurb off CL for my wife for $150 last month. There are still deals like that if you look hard enough...
