Well I switched. I ordered my first mac a minute ago.
24" Imac
2.4 (didnt think the extreme was worth it)
500 GB HD
1 Gb Ram ( will upgrade via newegg) (can i keep 1gb stick and put in a 2gb stick for 3 gb total or do i have to go to 4?)
wireless mouse
wired keyboard (like a numeric keypad)

free ipod
$100 off canon multi function printer ($29 after rebate)


I am so stoked! I have been waiting since Dec to make the switch and I want to thank all you guys who helped me along the way. Im sure I will be happy with it. My 5 year old Dell I am typing on has been good to me but its time for a change! Thanks!

Congratulations!!! You'll love your new iMac!! You don't need to take out the 1gb of original ram. You would lose the benefit of dual channel if you mix 1gb with 2gb, but the performance boost will make up for it. However, I doubt that Apple will ship iMac with a 1 gb stick. It's probably going to be 2 x 512mb for 1gb in total. So you'd have to take both out if you want to get to 3+gb.

whats the benifit of dual channel? It ships with 1 x 1 gb stick

I'm sure it ships with just 1GB stick, leaving the second slot free.

Dual Channel gives the best performance, mixed RAM means you lose about 3% or something small, but the extra 1GB will make up for it.
