  I'm in the middle of a nasty cold that I believe I may have contracted on the flight back from NY last week. It's so bad that this morning I woke up unable to speak.

Because I usually tutor on Sundays, I need some way to communicate to the folks at the math lab that I won't be tutoring today, and the only way I can to do that is via the phone.

Any suggestions or tips on quickly clearing up this congestion and getting some of my voice back? Oh yeah, I'm also starting my new job tomorrow. Perfect timing, isn't it?

Hot tea with freshly squeezed lemon juice and honey. Plenty of fluids and fresh fruit.

Honey and lemon. Always works wonders when I get a cold, they usually attack my throat more than anything too, not to the level I can't speak though. I find that anything thick but not dairy helps my throat so really anything with honey. I find pure orange just helps on the road to recovery.

Can you email the math lab? Or can you rasp out your situation?

I'm glad you're wise enough to stay home from work -- gotta take care of the body, first.

I'm going to try the honey and lemon mixed with tea.

Unfortunately, the only person I can e-mail is the head of Information Commons, and he does not work Sundays.

Ooh, sorry mate. Sounds horrible. Have a cup of hot water and honey and lemon, that'll make you feel better. :( I actually have a rough throat today, so I am just gonna have lemon with hot water. Mm..don't care for tea.

Get a friend to call the place and let them know you can't talk, and that's why they're calling to let them know you can't come in.

Yeah.. they recycle the air on jetliners these days. If someone on board is sick, you have a 99.99% chance of catching it. It's like making out with everyone on board by proxi.

Especially citrus fruit = makes body more alkaline which helps fight viruses. Peppermint tea is particularly good, along with chamomile.

Don't forget echinacea! Put it in your tea or take it in water...it really does work.

Yeah, it sucks. All the risk and none of the fun.:D

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm drinking OJ right now and hopefully I can work some of the laryngitis out of my system by tomorrow.

A few minutes ago I was looking in the bathroom mirror and noticed another undesirable aspect of the cold virus: pimples. For some reason I seem to break out whenever I have a cold.

I can't wait until this illness is over. :(

Here are my anti-cold virus weapons:

1) Afrin Nasal Spray.
2) Halls cherry cough drops.
3) TheraFlu Cold & Cough - lemon flavor.
4) Campbell's Home Style - chicken noodle.
5) Propel Fitness Water.
